Primate Behavior

Primate Behavior shouts its title in bold yellow capitals, and there isn't an animal anywhere in sight. Behind the words, straight lines cut the surface into sharp wedges of flat color, and a few drawn circles roll across them. Every line slices through the circles too, yet each one keeps its round outline, whole under all that cutting. That is where the struggle lives in this painting: in shapes that stay whole while everything around them is cut to fit, and keep rolling toward the open edge. Look around: you're the only primate in the room.
